Chris Avellone is helping out on Arkane Austin’s reboot of Prey that was announced at Bethesda’s E3 showcase last night.

The news comes from the man himself in a tweet posted shortly after the show following the game’s reveal.

He did later respond to a question confirming he wasn’t lead writer on the project and that he was approached by Arkane Austin head Raf Colantonio and writer Ricardo Bare to help out on the project.

Kicking off Season 4 of the show last month, Avellone told My Favourite Game that as well as Lorian Studios’ Divinity: Original Sin 2 and inXile’s Torment: Tales of Numenera, he was working on “a range of stuff” that wasn’t public besides Divinity 2 and Torment.

This is the first such project announced since his episode came out.  We’ll chase him down for more deets soon once E3 is done.

For now, you can watch the trailer for the reboot below. As someone who saw Human Head’s sci-fi bounty hunter version now formerly known as Prey 2 numerous times in 2011 from a Bethesda pre-E3 event in Utah, gamescom in Germany and Eurogamer Expo in London, Arkane’s version looks really interesting and has a more horror-driven vibe to it than Human Head’s action driven effort.

The trailer has a mish-mash of BioShock, The Darkness, 2K Marin’s XCOM FPS announced in 2010 (headed up too by Jordan Thomas following BioShock 2’s release – stay tuned for his episode at the end of next month) before it became The Bureau: XCOM Declassified and System Shock 2, which Avellone cited as an honourable mention in his episode and may have even been the choice for his favourite game were it not for Wasteland 2.

Prey comes out next year for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC. Listen to Chris kick off Season 4 of My Favourite Game here.
